Second Life Syndrome is the second studio album by the Polish progressive rock band Riverside. It appeared in 2005 on InsideOut Music and is the second part of a trilogy called Reality Dream.

Creation and publication

A successor to the debut album Out of Myself and thus a continuation of the concept was originally scheduled for early 2005, but could not be completed on time. Instead Riverside published first EP Voices in My Head and played a short tour in Western Europe. During this time she also signed a record deal with InsideOut Music. Second Life Syndrome, of which some pieces had already been played live, was finally taken studio from June to August 2005 at the Warsaw Serakos. Jacek Gawlowski mastered the album, Travis Smith designed the artwork.

Tracklist and style

Second Life Syndrome has more bonds to progressive metal than the debut album, but still shows influences from the art rock of Pink Floyd and the Neo -Prog Marillion. On laut.de and Baby Blue Pages album is also compared with Fates Warning and Porcupine Tree. The atmosphere is usually melancholy and gloomy.

Reception

The high expectations of the press after the debut album were met. Michael Edele of laut.de emphasizes that only the title track " riffs and sound magic has to offer with which other [ deny ] a whole album would ". Thomas Kohlruß of the Baby Blue Pages verdict: ". Riverside manage to actually surpass her very successful debut album in every way and again to increase neat " Mike Borrink from Rock Hard keeps the album eclipsed for an " elegiac art-rock masterpiece" and the music magazine chose it to 21st place its list of the 150 most important prog albums.
