Sedef Island

Sedef Adası (Greek: Τερέβυνθος / Terebinthos; German Pearl Island ), formerly known as Androvitha or Andircuithos, is one of the Princes' Islands in Istanbul and belongs to the district Adalar.

With an area of ​​15.7 ha of the island belongs to the smaller of the Princes' Islands and is located almost entirely in private hands. The owner of Sedef, Sehsuvar Menemencioglu, who acquired the island in 1956, ensures that the original landscape image is obtained. So may houses, have no more than two stories.

The original Greek name Terebinthos suggests that trees for the production of turpentine were cut to Sedef Adası.
