The Río Segura is a river in south-eastern Spain. It rises in Santiago Pontones in the province of Jaén, flows through the provinces of Albacete and Murcia, until it finally flows in Guardamar del Segura in the province of Alicante in the Mediterranean.

The Río Segura is characterized by dryness, due to strong autumn precipitation level, but every 6 to 9 years of flooding, most recently in 2000. Since 1990 the lower part of the river was channeled also to reduce the caused by the flooding damage.

A few years ago was the Segura as one of the dirtiest rivers in Europe. The situation was improved by the construction of sewage treatment plants.
