Reception

Baers Masoretic text output has been widely received as adequate reproduction of the Masoretic tradition; Christian David Ginsburg and Emil Kautzsch but also expressed critical. Baer has in turn criticized the Masoretic edition Ginsburg. Bruno Baentsch criticized some " quirks " such that Baer "on artifices and subtleties later Punktatoren ( the so-called Naqdanim ) put an undue weight, and it was sometimes missing in the adoption of interpretations on the application of the right critical method ".

At the suggestion of Delitzsch also goes back that Baer in 1876 received his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Leipzig in absentia. Baer, however, never held an academic position. The town of Biebrich gave Baer in 1882 an honorary citizen.

His interpretations and dating of texts were considered authoritative for future translations, eg by Adolph Neubauer.

Baer's liturgical editions were used in many synagogues; on Avodas Yisrael Siddur go many subsequent editions back.
