Semi-Open Game

As a Semi-Open Games is referred to in all those chess openings which begin with the train 1 e2- e4, the reply move from black but not 1 ... e7 - e5.

Background

With the exception of the French defense, which has been preferred by the chess master François -André Philidor Danican, most half- open games have evolved only since about 1850. Previously played by chess players and chess masters almost exclusively on the open-ended games.

But the feeling of Registered Fahrenheit and the specter of death draw led to a greater willingness to experiment and thus to the development of chess with new opening variations.

Major openings

The following openings are among the most common of the half- open games, roughly arranged according to their popularity and application in practice:

  • Sicilian Defense: 1 ... c7 - c5
  • Caro -Kann Defense: 1 ... c7 - c6
  • French Defence: 1 ... e7 - e6
  • Pirc Ufimtsev - defense: 1 ... d7 - d6
  • Modern Defence: 1 ... g7- g6
  • Scandinavian Defense: 1 ... d7 -d5
  • Alekhine Defence: 1 ... Ng8 - f6
  • Owen - defense: 1 ... b7 - b6
  • Nimzowitsch Defense: 1 ... Sb8 - c6

Rarely played openings

The other possible ten moves that black can respond to 1 e2 -e4, are hardly to be found in the tournament practice that applies to the practice game on grandmaster level as well as for the amateur. This is due to the fact that the Black player is already slightly disadvantaged by the white suit and advantage should ensure to bring his characters meaningful to the game. This is achieved by at least a certain influence on the central fields, be it. Bauer by direct thrusts in the center or edge game like in the openings with fianchettierten runners

An exception is the Baker - defense, 1 ... a6 a7 -, can be passed on with diverter in the Modern Defence. Should also mention the still 1 ... f7 - f6 and 1 ... Ng8 - h6, both in conjunction ( with the plan Sh6 - f7 ) gives a rare edge Springer opening. The other trains are negligible, they lose a pawn (b5, f5 ) or weaken Black's position unnecessarily (a5, h5 ).
