Woodland ragwort ( Senecio sylvaticus )

The forest ragwort ( Senecio sylvaticus ) is a plant of the genus Greis herbs ( Senecio ) in the sunflower family ( Asteraceae).

Features

The forest Ragwort is an annual herbaceous plant, the plant height is reached 15 to 50 cm and bare except scattered wanted hairy. Unlike the similar Sticky Groundsel ( Senecio viscosus ), it is neither glandular - sticky, yet it smells unpleasant. The leaves are pinnately lobed and have toothed leaflets on.

12 to 24 flower heads standing together in a loosely paniculate inflorescence. The cup -shaped part inflorescences have a diameter of 5 mm. Outside there are one to eight yellow ray florets, they are usually rolled back, this may be absent. Inside are the yellow tubular flowers with radial symmetry. Blooms from July to September.

The fruits are achenes.

Occurrence

This species occurs in many parts of Europe, in Germany it is scattered to find to spread.

The forest ragwort inhabited mainly clearcutting, but also light deciduous and mixed forests and forest edges and occurs at altitudes of 1800 m.

This species is a neophyte in North America.
