Senegalese parliamentary election, 2012

The elections to the National Assembly of Senegal in 2012 took place in the West African state of Senegal on 1 July 2012. The absolute majority of the votes and a two thirds majority of the seats went to the party thereby APR Yaakaar ("In hope united "), whose presidential candidate Macky Sall from the presidential election in Senegal in 2012 had already emerged victorious. The second strongest party was the Parti Démocratique Sénégalais the longtime president Abdoulaye Wade with only 15 % of the votes - 2007 they had won as part of the so-called Sopi coalition more than 60 % of the vote.

Suffrage

The composition of the Senegalese National Assembly is determined by a mix of proportional representation and majority voting rights: 60 of the 150 seats are allocated in proportion to the statewide vote, the other by a majority vote in the 90 constituencies. An election law change, 2010, also found that women must represent 50 % of the candidates on each party list. 64 women actually won a seat in the National Assembly. With the filmmaker Laurence Gavron, it also turned the first woman of European descent in Senegal for election.

Results

Of the 25 is beaten for election parties only six parties have won more than two percent of the vote, only the two biggest came on a double-digit percentage of the votes.
