Sępólno Krajeńskie

Sępólno Krajeńskie [ sɛmpulnɔ krajɛɲsk ʲ ɛ ] ( German Zempelburg ) is a town of 9,200 inhabitants in the Kujawsko - Pomerania, Poland. It is located 63 km north-west of Bydgoszcz ( Bromberg ) ( air line 53 km) to the Zempolna ( Sępólna ) and the Zempelburger Lake (length 3.52 km, width approx 470-500 m). Sępólno Krajeńskie is the seat of Powiats Sępoleński.

History

Zempelburg ( in older sources also stamp castle ) was founded in the 14th century according to Magdeburg law. The city is now mainly on the high bank of the lake and the river valley of the Zempolna. From the fact that the Catholic parish church, first mentioned in 1360, is located in the river valley is to conclude that the original town was located in the valley of Zempolna. The Castle of the basic rule is to be set in the present, caused by expansion of the lake of Dziechowo Zempelburger lake, according to legend. The former location of a second castle which was mentioned in 1679, is unknown. Located on the Schulenberg Protestant house of worship was destroyed in 1620. 1764 was the low city 79 the suburbs 71 houses.

Between 1772 and 1807 as well as 1815 and 1920 Zempelburg belonged to Prussia, in the period 1807-1815 to the Duchy of Warsaw.

The city was a center for cloth making and shoemaking. 1773 had Zempelburg 70 craftsmen, including eight drapers and numerous shoemakers. The Protestant church on the market was 1857/58 and has now been demolished.

Zempelburg belonged to the district Flatow. The city had 1910 3818 inhabitants, of whom 637 Poland. The religion has it that in 1905 57.0 % Protestant, 32.7 % Catholic, and 10.3 % were Jews. The town was on the Treaty of Versailles in 1920 without referendum on Poland and was named Sępólno Krajeńskie. During this time, the city was county town of powiat Sępólno. Between 1939 and 1945 Zempelburg belonged to the German Empire, and was the seat of the district Zempelburg.
