Sergei Starikov

Sergei Starikov (Russian: Сергей Викторович Стариков; born December 4, 1958 in Chelyabinsk, Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player.

Career

His career began in 1978/79 at HC Traktor Chelyabinsk. Here the defender played for one season before moving to the then elite club HK CSKA Moscow. Overall, he scored 58 goals in 510 games in the Soviet league. NHL Entry Draft 1989, he was selected in the 8th round to 152 place by the New Jersey Devils. So he ventured before the collapse of the Soviet Union made ​​it into the National Hockey League. Over the next few years he played for the New Jersey Devils, Utica Devils ( AHL ) and San Diego Gulls ( IHL ).

Early on, he was appointed to the team of the Soviet national ice hockey team. On September 19, 1978, he was in a game against Czechoslovakia for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. His international career was crowned with the gold medals at the Winter Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988. Already at the Olympic Winter Games in 1980 he had won with his team at the legendary Miracle on Ice the silver medal. In 1983 he was inducted into the "Russian Hockey Hall of Fame".
