Sergio Massa

Sergio Massa ( born April 28 1972 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine politician, currently mayor of the city of Tigre, as well as a member of the House of Representatives. From July 2008 to July 2009 he was a cabinet minister under Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

Life

Sergio Massa studied law at the University of Belgrano, left this but without a degree. He then married Malena Galmarini, daughter of Fernando Galmarini, former sports minister of Argentina under President Carlos Menem. As of January 2002, he was head of the Argentine social security. There, he promoted the current Vice President Amado Boudou in the country to finance director of social security.

Policy

In the 2005 elections Massa won on the list of Frente para la Victoria of then President Nestor Kirchner a seat in the House of Representatives. But at the request of the President he gave up this seat to remain head of the social can.

On 10 December 2007 Massa was elected mayor of Tigre.

Following a vote defeat in July 2008 dismissed President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner her cabinet chief and gave these items to Sergio Massa. This had to leave to stand for office as mayor.
