Shaman was founded in 1993, Finnish folk metal band that was known for the exceptional blend of Sami folk with rock and metal. From 2003, the band Korpiklaani shaman went out. The only permanent member was the guitarist and singer Jonne Järvelä.

History

The first release of the band made 1998 one- track demo Ođđa máilbmi ( Sami: New World) dar. On the first album, Idja ( Sami: night), which was published in 1999, the song Ođđa máilbmi was republished. Shamániac, the second album, was released in 2002.

2003 sparked Järvelä on the band to start Korpiklaani.

Music

Shaman combined in their songs Sami instruments such as the shaman drum with those of a typical Rock-/Metal-Band ( electric guitar, electric bass, drums) and Keyboard. The compositions vary between ballads and harder folk metal songs, which often take up too humppa elements. In addition to clean vocals, which is usually gejoikt, is found mainly on Shamániac harsher, raspy vocals, which partially resembles the growling.

Especially the songs on Shamániac strongly reminiscent of the first publications of Korpiklaani. The song was later Vuola lávlla only provided with another text and re-released under the name of Beer, Beer Korpiklaani.

Texts

More than half of the songs has absolutely no "real" text, the song is there, pure Joiken. In the few songs that have a text this is usually kept very short and always written in Sami.
