Background

After Mark Knopfler has greatly devoted to his previous album, The Ragpicker 's Dream the country, he brings on this album, blues, country and rock elements. The Opener 5:15 AM is a slow start forming, ever- enhancing, mid-tempo piece, followed by the rapid Country & blues number Boom, like that which reminds us of the Dire Straits times. After that, the songs run mostly calm and relaxed. There are exceptions, such as the crisp song Song for Sonny Liston. Knopfler sings here the boxer Sonny Liston, who once said: "Some day They gonna write a blues for fighters It'll just be for slow guitar, soft trumpet and a bell. . " Mark Knopfler manages a very bluesy up-tempo number with a catchy guitar riff. But it is not the only dedication to - mostly died - personalities. Back to Tupelo is a song that deals critically with the movie career of Elvis Presley. In Donegan 's Gone he sings the Irish folk musician Lonnie Donegan.

Through the album, a very relaxed atmosphere attracts. After Mark Knopfler in 2003 had a motorcycle accident and had to cancel his tour, he is here to live just thankful and to be able to add this album. This is most apparent in the title song, which houses the line of text: "This is all the heaven we've got, right here where we are. "

In addition to the release of the CD, a limited edition of the album was released, and that the unpublished Summer of Love on an additional DVD contains interviews and video clips of the songs Boom, like that, Everybody Pays, Whoop De Doo.

Mark Knopfler started in 2005 a tour, starting at the Royal Albert Hall in London. This tour also took him a long time back to Australia.

Reviews

The website laut.de thinks that Mark Knopfler again abliefere play a joyous and harmonious album Shangri -La. The pressure and expectations from the days with Dire Straits he had long since left behind. Meanwhile, he was playing music that come to him from the heart. That he thus still celebrate chart success, was an incidental thing. That he could think of doing anything big news anymore, be forgiven him. The website gave the album 3 out of 5 possible points.
