Shea Cowart

Mary Shea Cowart ( b. 1979 ) is a former American sprinter, Paralympic gold medalist and current world record holder.

Life and career

Growing up in Georgia, Shea Cowart were both lower legs amputated at the age of six years after a meningococcal infection and subsequent gangrene.

Still, they led after a relatively normal life and business sports such as softball, basketball and cheerleading. Starting in 1998, then followed the entry into competitive sports, especially on routes 100, 200 and 400 meters.

The highlight of her career is the double victory over the 100 and 200 meters at the Paralympic Games in Sydney 2000. 2001 and 2002 accrued bests have today (as of 2010 ) still existed in the official IPC - record list.
