The hull of a destroyer Shirane class is 159 m long and 17.5 m wide, with a draft of 5.3 m, displacement 7,500 tons standard. The superstructure will be dominated by the large helipad at the stern, which occupies a third of the ship's length. The middle third takes from the deck house whose rear half houses the helicopter hangar.

It is driven by two geared turbines, which release their power of 70,000 hp to two shafts with a single screw. The steam is generated in two IHI boilers with 60 bar pressure.
