Shire of Aurukun

Geography
The Shire is located in the north of the state on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula between the Embley River in the north and the Holroyd River in the south.
In the town of Aurukun north of Acher Bay between Ward River and Watson River all residents of the LGA live.
History
In Aurukun a mission was founded in 1904, in the living on the Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal people were forcibly resettled. New laws in 1978, the land around Aurukun as Aboriginal Land Lease No.. 1 leased to the natives and pass a limited self-government.
To enter the area of the Shires, whether as a visitor or as a tourist, you have to apply for a permit from the Council.
Management
The Aurukun Council has five members. The Mayor ( mayor) and four other Councillor shall be elected by all residents of the Shire. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
