Shire of Croydon

Geography

The Shire is located in the north of the state at the southern tip of Cape York Peninsula about 1510 km northeast of the capital Brisbane.

The only place and administrative headquarters of the LGA is Croydon.

History

Named after the area is the home town of an English settler who founded there in the 19th century, a cattle farm called Croydon Downs. The town of Croydon was after gold was found in the area and got a 1887 local administration.

Management

The Croydon Shire Council has five members. The Mayor ( mayor) and four other Councillor shall be elected by all residents of the Shire. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
