Shire of Hinchinbrook

Geography

The Shire is located on the northeast coast of the state about 1210 km north of the capital Brisbane and approximately 200 km south of Cairns.

Largest city and administrative headquarters of the LGA is the town of Ingham with about 4600 inhabitants. Other towns are Abergowrie, Bambaroo, Bemerside, Blackrock, Braemeadows, Coolbie, Cordelia, Dalrymple Creek, Forest Home, Forrest Beach, Gairloch, Garrawalt, Halifax, Hawkins Creek Helens Hill, Lanner Cost, Long Pocket, Lucinda, Macknade, Mount Fox, Orient, Palm Iceland, Peacock Siding, Taylors Beach, Toobanna, Trebonne, Upper Stone, Victoria Plantation, Wharps and Yuruga.

History

In the 70s of the 19th century, the settlement of the area of Ingham began and in 1879 there was the first local government in the Herbert River.

Management

The Hinchinbrook Shire Council has seven members. The Mayor ( mayor) and six other Councillor shall be elected by all residents of the Shire. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
