Shire of Quilpie

- 26.6144.25Koordinaten: 26 ° 36 ' S, 144 ° 15' O The Shire of Quilpie is a Local Government Area ( LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland. The area is 67,428 km ² and has about 980 inhabitants.

Geography

The Shire is located in the southwest of the state on the border with New South Wales about 870 km west of the capital Brisbane.

The largest town and administrative headquarters of the LGA is Quilpie with about 570 inhabitants. Other towns are Adavale, Cheepie, Eromanga and Toompine.

History

Originally Adavale the most important settlement in the region and there a local government was first established. Because of the importance of Quilpie station grew more and more and in 1930 the county seat was moved there and renamed the Shire.

Management

The Quilpie Shire Council has five members. The Mayor ( mayor) and four other Councillor shall be elected by all residents of the Shire. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
