Shmuel Halpert

Schmu'el Halpert (Hebrew שמואל הלפרט; born February 5, 1939 in Cluj, Kingdom of Romania) is an Israeli rabbi and politician.

Life

Halpert is the grandson of Rabbi Mordechai of Nadvirna and of Rabbi Yisroel Yaakov from Chust. He studied at the Institute for Talmudic studies in Wyschnyzja (Hebrew חסידות סֶרְט ויז'ניץ ), where he was ordained as a rabbi. In 1960 he emigrated to Israel.

Policy

Halpert was in the 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th Knesset government.

At first he was Agudat Yisrael of the Knesset ( 1981-1984 and 1988-1992 ), then he was member of the Knesset of the United Torah Judaism (1992 to 1994 and 1996 to 1999).

In 1999, Halpert was Agudat Yisrael of the Knesset. After that, he was Member of the Knesset of the United Torah Judaism (1999-2003), then the Agudat Yisrael Knesset (2005-2006). From 2006 to 2008, Halpert Knesset member of the United Torah Judaism and 2008-2009 Member of the Knesset of Agudat Yisrael.

In addition, he was in the 30th Government of 30 March 2005 to May 4, 2006 as a deputy of the Agudat Jisra'el deputy transport minister in Israel.
