Shukhrat Safin

Shuhrat Safin ( born April 3, 1970 in Samarqand, † September 20, 2009 ) was an Uzbek chess player. The title of chess grandmaster he received in 1999. His highest Elo rating was 2542 in October 2002. Between July 2001 and March 2002, he was behind Rustam Kasimjanov in second place of the Uzbek Elo ranking.

In zone tournament in 2001 from Tashkent he finished behind Pavel Kotsur second place, but in the subsequent FIDE World Championship in Moscow, he retired in the first round with 0.5:1.5 against Predrag Nikolić from. The Uzbek Individual Championship he won in Tashkent in the same year. In 2002, he won the open Dutch championship in Dieren.

For the Uzbek national team played in five Chess Olympiads ( 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2008), the World Team Championship in 2001 and twice at the Asian Championships (1995 and 2003). In the Asia Cup 1995 in Singapore, he received an individual silver medal for his score of 4.5 points from 6 games on the fourth board, the Uzbek team finished third. Shuhrat Safin is the father of two sons and a daughter. He died 39 years old from leukemia.
