Features

Butterfly

The wingspan of the butterfly is 29 to 34 millimeters. The forewings show a rich color spectrum, consisting of a blend of violet, reddish, dark brown, greenish and yellowish tints. Newly emerged moths have a distinctive purple sheen. In the black-brown colored copies, the yellow enclosed ring and kidney blemish come particularly clear advantage. These run into one another on the base and thereby give a V-shaped pattern. Zapf stigma are big and black. The yellowish wavy line is heavily serrated, shows a clear W and reveals black, inward arrow spots. The hind wings are pale gray-brown monochrome.

Caterpillar

Young caterpillars are first dyed dark green. Later, they take on a light green color and have yellowish back and side stripes and white dots. They change the look of growing up in a yellowish to brownish tint with tan slashes.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The species is widely distributed from the northern part of the Iberian Peninsula throughout Europe, including the British Isles and Fennoskandinaviens. Eastwards it comes through East Asia prior to Manchuria. However, the Mediterranean - The southern distribution includes the without Greece and parts Small and Central Asia.
