Siegfried Köhler (conductor)

Siegfried Köhler ( born July 30, 1923 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German conductor and composer.

Life

After his studies at the Musikhochschule Freiburg Köhler 1942 took an engagement at the Theater Heilbronn as a harpist and conductor. In 1946 he went to Freiburg and 1954 as Kapellmeister at the Düsseldorf Opera. From 1957 he conducted at the opera in Cologne, where he became also at the Academy of Music, the management of the Opera Studio. From the year 1964 he was music director of the Saarland State Theater in Saarbruecken, where he was also professor of conducting at the University of the Saarland for music and theater.

Between 1973 and 1988 he held the position of music director at the Staatstheater in Wiesbaden. After that, he was Kapellmeister at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. In addition, Koehler has performed internationally with leading orchestras.

His artistic career is documented in radio and television recordings as well as recordings by. Under the title Everything Capriolen, also bears an operetta composed by him, he put 2003 in front of his autobiography. Siegfried Köhler is next to Dame Gwyneth Jones, Catarina Ligendza, Siegmund Nimsgern and the late Astrid Varnay honorary member of the Richard Wagner Association Saarland.
