Sieniawka, Zgorzelec County

Sieniawka ( German Klein Schönau ) is a village in the municipality of Bogatynia. It is located in the extreme southwest of Poland and Lower Silesia 3 km east of the center of Zittau on the right bank of the Lusatian Neisse and was up to the Reformation, a known Oberlausitzer pilgrimage.

There is a border crossing ( Chopin Street ), which is also accessible for buses and trucks up to 7,5 t, in contrast to other transition Zittau peace road between Zittau and Sieniawka. The connection of the federal highway 178 through Polish territory to the R 35 at Chrastava ( Kratzau ) in the Czech Republic will perform Sieniawka.

The village is bounded to the north and east by lignite mining Turow. Because of the boundary layer, a large border market has emerged in Sieniawka. In the barracks, especially cigarettes and clothing are offered.

History

The first mention of small Schönau as Parvum Sonov dates from 1352, in one of the Pope's tithe registers in the diocese of Prague. 1353, the village was located to distinguish it from other precincts in the Zittau village, today Grossschönau, called a few Schonaw. 1387 acquired the town of Zittau the place Kleinschonichen by the Lords of Dohna on Grafstein. The village compared to the current park area Zittau Weinau lying in the Neißeauen village then became part of the Zittau Council villages. An exception is only the years 1547 to 1549 when the city lost their property because of the Pönfalls. Too Small Schönau belonged since its inception, the Vorwerk Kleinporitsch.

Small Schönau was a venue clauses above, the was also associated with the location near the Bohemian border Vorwerk Luptin. Since Luptin was closer to Oberullersdorf and was also gepfarrt there, in 1920 its annexation to Oberullersdorf.

Through small Schönau led in 1884 inaugurated narrow gauge railway line from Zittau to marker village on Reichenau, which still later received a port in the Bohemian Hermsdorf. This railway line was by Kurt Piehler in the song From Zittau goes off Reich'nau o hibsches Kleene Boahnel sung. After the demarcation along the Neisse train traffic was stopped. Today you can find in the town center or the old tracks, while the other route is to Bogatynia completely disappeared by the mining Turow.

In 1927 the Neisse between Zittau and small Schönau was started with the river regulation.

1924 lived in small Schönau 975 inhabitants, in 1933 there were 981 and 1939 875

1945 was one small Schönau to the villages of Amtshauptmannschaft Zittau in Saxony, which were Polish. The local population was sold from 1945 to 1947. The nearby towns of Zittel and Friedersdorf were dredged.

On the site of the Barbican Kleinporitsch and the adjacent POW camp barracks Großporitsch a new building was begun in the 1930s. After the termination of the work by the Second World War, the site was taken over by the Zittwerken 1944. The almost complete and in the meantime used as a POW camp team houses the barracks in Kleinporitsch were completed this residential accommodation of followers of Zittwerke. Part of it is now the Province Department of Psychiatry.

Church

Catholic chapel

The exact date of the establishment of the church in small Schönau is not known. The original chapel was dedicated to Saint Thekla. In her heart she was a picture of Mary, the miracle work was awarded and destination of pilgrimages was.

It was a probably painted on linden wood chest portrait of Mary with the infant Jesus in her arms. The colored paintings on a gold ground was surrounded by a wooden frame and had a height of one and a width of three-quarters of Ellen.

After the Reformation, the church remained unused from 1540 and the statue was placed in the sacristy of St. John's Church to Zittau. In 1730, Elector Friedrich August I ordered the publication of the image at his court painter Johann Adolph Poeppelmann.

Evangelical Church

1580 was a repair of the church and its consecration as a branch church of St. John's Church to Zittau. Further repairs were made in 1588 and 1653. In 1657, the windows and the floor were replaced, with the church received a new ceiling wood paneling that has been provided by the 1659 Zittau painter Johann Christian Leubner with 19 images from the Old Testament.

1687-1689 saw the construction of the eastern part and 1702 was added in the southern hall. The roof turret was replaced in 1794 by a massive church tower, which clearly dominates the squat nave. In 1858 the tower new bells, which were made ​​by the master bell-founder Frederick Gruhl from Kleinwelka.

Interior

  • The baptismal font and the holy water basins were made ​​around 1500 of sandstone. Finally, the baptismal font stood in the churchyard.
  • From this time probably also come the high 0.80 to 1.00 m -painted wooden figures of Mary Magdalene and Margaret, who belonged to the old altar from the late Gothic period. Further illustrations are a saint seated Mary with the body of Christ and the Holy Martin on a horse. All of these figures from the old church located in the Civic Museums Zittau.
  • In the church is the altar with pulpit, which was made in 1731. The 1659 manufactured by Leubner ceiling paintings are gone as well as the painting of the gallery lost during the conversion.
