Sikora (plural: Sikororowie ) is one of the oldest Polish surname.

History

The oldest known and documented mention of the name comes from the year 1389 in the Cracow court records, a " Piotr Sikora z Krzecuowej Woli h lis" (Latin: Nobilus Peter Sicora h de Lis Krzeczowa Wola ). Mentioned. Already in the 14th century, the Sikora were a numerous family of knights. Most commonly, the name of the region Sieradz and in Lesser Poland, Greater Poland and Pomerania was mentioned.

In archives, a Knight's Tale " Maciej Sikora h lis" and his seven sons is mentioned, who founded in 1421 with the permission of the Polish King Wladyslaw Jagiello, the settlement Sikory in Podlasie. His descendants settled numerous the Podlasie region and the Grodno region and the Smolensk region.
