Silent Waters is the eighth studio album by the Finnish metal band Amorphis. It was released on 29 August 2007 in Finland and two days later the world at the label Nuclear Blast.

Creation and publication

In July 2005, Amorphis took on the previous Eclipse. Since the band members were motivated and had desire to take more pictures as soon as possible, Silent Waters was recorded in January and February 2007, one and a half years later, the production took place in February and March at Finnvox Studios. For the first time in the band's history, the cast between two albums did not change, even the production team has remained the same.

Silent Waters appeared on 29 August 2007 in Finland and two days later the world. As a single, the title track Silent Waters has been selected and published on June 27, 2007. For this choice, Tomi Joutsen said in an interview: "I think Silent Waters is a good song for a rock station that maybe does not play heavy music. It is an easy-listening song, so we have taken it as a single, although he did not very well reflects the album. " ( Tomi Joutsen on July 2, 2007)

In addition to the normal version of a Limited Edition of the album exist with the added piece sign, which has already been published on the single as a B-side. On 21 June 2007, the promoters of Silent Waters by the Release Group QTXMp3 was illegally posted on the Internet.

Style

Silent Waters is stylistically very similar to its predecessor Eclipse. Both the production, and the host team has remained the same. Tomi Koivusaari said in an interview: "It may well be that we have finally found our own style. " ( Tomi Koivusaari on August 21, 2007)

The entire artwork for the album was designed by Travis Smith. The cover shows the Swan of Tuonela.

The texts are taken from the Kalevala and tell the story of the hero, Lemminkainen. They were translated from Erkki Virta, a friend of the band, into English.

Successes and criticism

In the German magazine Rock Hard (Issue 244) Silent Waters finished fifth in the monthly evaluation and has been rated by the editors with an average of 7.6 out of a possible ten points. Wolf -Rüdiger Sears, a freelancer for the magazine, commented in his review euphoric about the album:

" Silent Waters grows to a set to music, big soul full of happiness, suffering and pain [...] A wonderful work, the first big band milestone since Elegy. "

The Metal Hammer has named Silent Waters album of the month for September 2007. In the September issue of the magazine Heavy Silent Waters also took the first place and has been rated an average of 8.8 out of 12 possible points. In Finland, Silent Waters debuted at number three on the album charts. Also in Switzerland, Austria and Germany, the album was able to place in the charts.
