Silique

The pod ( siliqua ) is a sub-form of the fruit capsule, particularly the cabbage family ( Brassicaceae) is proper.

In cruciferous vegetables is the capsule of two carpels, according to a different morphological interpretation of four. It consists of a placenta - frame ( Replum ), which stops at the fruit stalk and the sit the seeds. From this context shall be at fruit maturity from two seedless flaps. In the interpretation of four carpels of the frame consisting of two fertile carpels is established, the two flaps are two sterile carpels. The cruciferous pod has a false septum. Pods that are more than three times as long as wide, hot silicles ( Silicula ), regardless of their size. Great little pods can be found for example in the silver leaves ( Lunaria annua Lunaria and rediviva ).

Pods also have the Fumitory and some poppy plants such as the celandine. These pods have no septum.

The default language also summarizes the fruits of pea, bean and lentil and their seed coats under the term " pod ", these fruits are botanically legumes. Landscape, the term " pod " the peas ( plant ). So-called peppers are referred to in botany as a hollow berries.
