Silvio Soldini
Silvio Soldini ( born August 1, 1958 in Milan ) is an Italian- Swiss director.
Soldini, a brother of the famous Italian sailor Giovanni Soldini one-handed, studied at the New York University Film and delivered in 1982 with the short film Drimage his first work from. Shortly thereafter, he returned to Milan, where he worked as a translator and assistant director.
In Milan, he made two more short low-budget films, in 1982 the film Paesaggio con figure and in 1985 the film Giulia in ottobre.
In 1984 he founded with some associates his own production company named Monogatari. On her was involved from the beginning of the cameraman Luca Bigazzi, who had led the camera already in all previous film projects Soldini.
1986 turned Soldini together with Bigazzi in a mental hospital video production Voci Celate, which was awarded at the festival in Salsomaggiore as the winner.
1989 realized Soldini his first feature film L' aria serena dell'ovest, who was awarded among others, the Youth Jury Award of the Locarno Festival and recorded great success with the audience. Was praised including his documentary style, which gave the story authenticity.
1993 premiered with Un ' anima divisa in due ( Digested soul) Soldini's second feature film at the Venice Film Festival. The main actor Fabrizio Bentivoglio received the Coppa Volpi for best male actor.
In 1997 he made the film Le acrobat ( Acrobats ), which was shown at the Locarno Festival and San Francisco. Actress was Valeria Golino, which was awarded at the Rencontres internationales de Cinéma in Paris and Saint -Vincent with the grolla d'Oro.
2000 came out of the fourth and most successful movie of the director with Pane e Tulipani ( Bread and Tulips ). He was nine times with the David di Donatello, the Italian equivalent of the Oscar awarded, including Best Film of the Year, Best Director, for Best Female lead role ( Licia Maglietta ) and for Best Male lead (Bruno Ganz). The film also received five Nastro d' Argento, including for Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Female lead role, the Italian film critic.
