Silvius I Nimrod, Duke of Württemberg-Oels

Silvius Nimrod I. ( born May 2, 1622 Weiltingen, † April 24, 1664 in Briese at Oels in Silesia) was the first Duke of Württemberg- oil.

Life

Silvius was the son of the Duke Julius Friedrich of Württemberg- Weiltingen and Anna Sabina von Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg. 1638 he took part in the siege of Breisach in the army of Bernhard of Saxe-Weimar. On May 1, 1647 he married Marie Elisabeth in Oels of oil which their father died Duke Karl Friedrich I. few weeks later. Since he was the last reigning duke of oil which his duchy fell as a completed fief to the crown of Bohemia. Therefore intended Emperor Ferdinand III. in his capacity as King of Bohemia, feed the Duchy of oil. After lengthy negotiations, with which Silvius responsible for payment of 20,000 florins and the assignment of the Moravian Jaispitz rule, he was eventually invested on December 15, 1648 in Vienna with the Principality of oil. Below Silvius tried to rebuild the battered country back from the Thirty Years' War, in which he put renewed emphasis on the areas of education and the church. In 1652 he founded the Equestrian Order of the Skull, which existed until the 19th century. From 1647 to 1652 Angelus Silesius was his court physician. Matthew Apelles of Löwenstern to 1639 was his Ducal Council and court music.

On April 26, 1664 Silvius Nimrod I. died of a stroke in a visit to Castle breeze. According to the testamentary disposition Duke Christian von Liegnitz - Brieg took over the custody of his sons. To prevent an imperial guardianship which would be likely to follow a Catholic education of the prince, he sent her to study at the Tübingen Collegium Illustre.

Progeny

On May 1, 1647 Silvius married in Oels Elisabeth Marie of Oels ( 1625-1686 ). The couple had five sons and two daughters:
