Simav is a town and a district of the Turkish province of Kütahya. The city is located about 100 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital of Kütahya.

The district is located in the west of the province. It is bordered to the north by Tavşanlı, to the east by Emet and Hisarcik, on the southeast by Gediz, Şaphane and Pazarlar and to the west by the provinces of Manisa and Balıkesir. The county town is situated on the highway D -240, which leads from Bergama on the Aegean coast to Kütahya. From these branches in Simav from the D -595, which runs north past the Iznik Gölü to the Gulf of İzmit in the Sea of ​​Marmara. North of the city flows the river Simav Çayı, the ancient Makestos, which flows under the name Çapraz Çay into the Sea of ​​Marmara. About six kilometers northwest of the city lies the dried lake Simav Gölü (also Denizgölü ). In the north of the river the mountain range Eğrigöz Dagi begins in the south are the Simav Dağları (antique Temnos ) with the 1696 -meter-high Bayrak Tepe.

Attractions

On the south bank of the Simav Gölü the place Gölköy are ruins, called Bogazköy Kalesi that may be attributable to the ancient city of Ancyra.
