Simbiling Monastery

The ruins of the Shepheling Monastery (Tib.: bshad phel dgon gling ) is located in the district Burang ( Purang ) in government Ngari Prefecture in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. The fortress ( Dzong; Tib rDzong ) dates back to the 12th century. It was the administrative seat of the rulers ( dpon po) of Purang and later became the most important Gelugpa monastery in Purang. It is a Dzong - conditioning, that is, a mostly situated on a hill fortress, which is why the place is called Shepheling Dzong. A Sakya Monastery is part of the site. The system was largely destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.

The place of Shepeling monastery is on the list of monuments of Tibet Autonomous Region (photo) since 2009.
