Simlai

R. Simlai ( Simlaj, also: Samlai ), son of Abba, was a particularly versed in the Haggadah Jewish scholar of antiquity, is counted among the Palestinian Amoraim the second generation and lived and worked in the third century AD.

He came from Nehardea, then lived in Lydda, later in Galilee at Jannai in Sepphoris.

Because of his time in Lydda he had the nickname Lyddenser or Daromäer (Hebrew darom, " south ").

Due to its excellent writing skills, he was predestined to deal with Christianity and argued particularly against the Trinity.

Best known is his statement, the Torah consists of 613 's and don'ts. David 've reduced to eleven (Psalm 15), Isaiah to six ( 33,15 ), Micah to three ( 6.8) again Isaiah to two ( 56.1 ) and Habakkuk solely to one: 'The just shall live by his faith "( 2:4).

Simlais tradent is R. Hiyya bar Tanhum.
