Simms Taback

Simms Taback ( born February 13, 1932 in Bronx, New York City, New York, † December 25, 2011 in Ventura, California ) was an American illustrator, children's book author, art director and graphic designer.

Life

Born and raised in the Bronx visited tobacco until 1953, The Cooper Union, is a privately run college in Lower Manhattan. After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked as an art director for CBS Records and The New York Times. Later he became Advertising Art Director at William Douglas McAdams. In 1963, tobacco together with Reynold Ruffins, a design studio.

Taback taught at the School of Visual Arts and Syracuse University. He was the founding president of The Illustrators Guild later in the New York Graphic Artists Guild, tobacco was a founding member and was president Selbiger, came up. In addition, he was a member of the Society of Illustrators.

During his career, he published over 40 children's books, which he also illustrated mostly self. Many of his books have received awards, which among other awards from the American Library Association, and the Sidney Taylor Award includes Parents' Choice Gold Awards. For example, Joseph Had a Little Overcoat won the 2005 Caldecott Medal. For There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, one of two books, the New York Times described as bestillustriertes children's book and which was selected by the American Institute of Graphic Arts as a children's book of the year, received the Caldecott Honor

Tobacco was married and had three children. Since 2006 he and his wife lived in Ventura, California. He died there on 25 December 2011 at the age of 79 from pancreatic cancer.

Trivia

Taback designed in 1977 the design of the first Happy Meal box from McDonalds.
