Singleton (New South Wales)

Singleton is one of the oldest settlements in the Hunter Valley. It has 12,000 inhabitants and is located in the administrative area of ​​Singleton Shire Council.

1820 a settlement was founded here, which was declared 16 years later to a city. It is named within the area by Benjamin Singleton, owner of the first inn.

Singleton is now retail center and industrial city in a fertile agricultural region, which produces milk, meat and vegetables. A major contribution to the economy of the city is provided by its surrounding coal mines whose production is mainly used by the nearby Bayswater power station.

The old courthouse and the jail now contain a historical museum.
