Sinope Gospels

The Codex Sinopensis ( Gregory - Aland Sigel: O or 023 ) is a Gospels manuscript, dated to the 6th century and today, for the most part in Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, Suppl Gr. 1286 kept. The Codex was named after the port city of Sinop in northern Anatolia, where the manuscript was found in 1899.

The manuscript consists of the Gospel according to Matthew on 44 parchment leaves with numerous gaps. It has a size of 30 × 25 cm. The text is in a column with 15 rows.

Together with the Vienna Genesis and the Codex purpureus Rossanensis the Codex belongs to a group, since the manuscripts are believed to have originated at the same time in the same place, probably in Syria. In contrast to the Vienna manuscript containing the Book of Genesis, it is in the other two codices to Gospels manuscripts.

The Greek text of the codex represents the Byzantine text and the category V is assigned.
