Sissle

Sissle at Oeschgen

The Sissle is a 16 -kilometer-long river in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. It is a tributary of the Rhine River and drains the eastern part of the Frick Valley. The largest village on the creek is Frick.

The creek rises in the municipalities of Schinznach and Thalheim at an altitude of 650 m above sea level. M. on the southern slopes of the three northern slope of the mountain and Zeiher Homberg, in the midst of the Jura Mountains. Shortly after the source breaks through the creek a gorge between the mountain and the three Zeiher Homberg and then falls rapidly. He passed the Talmatt and separates the district Zeiher Iberg. After about two and a half kilometers, the Sissle happened at an altitude of 450 meters, the west portal of the Bözbergtunnels with the station Effingen - Zeihen. There they had to be channeled due to the construction of the railway line.

From here on, the slope is rather flat and the stream follows the A3 motorway initially free-flowing, but channeled by hornussen. The channelized section extends to Eiken, where the stream changes its flow direction from north-west to north and enters the Rhine valley. She takes in Frick, on the left side of the next Wittnau Bruggbach on. In the last two and a half kilometers, the Sissle meanders strong and leads to the village Sisseln in the High Rhine, at an altitude of 290 meters.
