Sittard–Herzogenrath railway

The railway line Sittard- Duke Rath is a railway line between the Dutch town of Sittard and the German city of Herzogenrath. She was taken into operation in 1896.

History

The line was nationalized in 1899. During World War II the cross-border passenger services were set on the track. From 31 May 1992, passenger services were carried out by first two hourly circulating city express trains between Aachen Central Station and Heerlen via this route again.

Current

As the first real stage of development of the regional rail system Euregiobahn the relation of Heerlen was introduced on Herzogenrath in June 2001. The Euregio train runs every hour from Heerlen today, it is winged in Stolberg ( Rhineland ) Hauptbahnhof; a tensile member then moves up to Stolberg Altstadt, the other to Düren Langerwehe or train station. Further plans include the continuation of the Euregiobahn about Heerlen addition to Sittard.
