Sivaji Ganesan

Sivaji Ganesan ( Tamil: சிவாஜி கணேசன்; born October 1, 1927 in Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu, † July 21, 2001 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu ), actually VC Ganesan ( Viluppuram Chinnaiahpillai Ganesan ), was an Indian film actor. He was next to MG Ramachandran was the most influential actor in the Tamil film.

Life

The son of P. and Rajamani Ammal Chinniah Mandraayer joined as a child of a theater group, where he met Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kathakali and Carnatic music. He became known for CN Annadurais stage play Shivaji Kanda Indhu Rajyam in which he played the Maratha king Shivaji, and from which he derived his stage name also.

His film debut was Sivaji Ganesan in Parasakthi in 1952. He settled first clamp for the party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam propaganda and played in several mythological nationalist films of the 1950s and 1960s in the Tamil film industry. With his best-known film Veerapandiya Kattaboman (1960 ) Sivaji Ganesan won the award for Best Actor at the film festival in Cairo. Despite frequent criticism for its theatrical spectacle, reached his best-known films ( Thillana Mohanambal, 1968) to America. His commercial success faded in the 1980s and he joined less in appearance. 1986 and 1993 he was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the National Film Awards.

Ganesan 1976 was awarded the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan in 1984 with the and 1997 for his outstanding contribution to the Indian film with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. From 1982 to 1988 he was a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. In 1995 he was admitted as a Chevalier in the French Legion of Honour.

His son Prabhu is a Tamil film actor since the 1980s.
