Skačany

Skačany (Hungarian Szkacsány - to 1907 Szkacsán ) is a city and a municipality in western Slovakia, with 1306 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It is located in Okres Partizánske, a circle of higher administrative unit Trenčín Region.

Geography

Skačany lies on the River Nitrica at the northeastern tip of the Slovak Danube Hillsbrad and six kilometers from Partizánske.

History

The settlement evidence reach into the Bronze Age, with findings of the Lusatian culture. The town was first mentioned in writing in 1078 and later became the seat of a Herrschaftsguts that included 14 municipalities. 1698 was the place market rights and then developed as a small market town. To date, the community is dominated by agriculture.
