Skalité

Skalité (Hungarian Sziklaszoros - to 1902 Szkalite; Polish Skalite ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with 5239 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It is close to the borders with the Czech Republic and Poland in the Beskids. The center is located at an altitude of 524 m nm, around 20 km from Čadca.

The village was first mentioned in 1664 as Podskalitye. Near the village is a road and railway border crossing with Poland. In the village lives a minority of highlanders. 1938 Skalité was occupied in the wake of the Munich Agreement of Poland, in 1939 with the beginning of World War II, however, he came back to the newly created Slovakia.
