Skåneland

Skåneland is a modern name for the historical region of Skåne in southern Sweden ( Skåne), Halland and Blekinge, and sometimes the Danish Baltic Sea island of Bornholm.

The area was ceded by the Peace of Roskilde in 1658 by Denmark to Sweden. Bornholm fell two years later by the Treaty of Copenhagen back to Denmark.

The term Skånelandskapen or de Skåne landskapen ( " the Scanian provinces " ) is used by historians frequently for the region concerned in the Swedish language. The Danish term is Skånelandene.

The term is also in Swedish, used especially in poetic paraphrases, as a synonym for Scania.

The region has a great historical and cultural community. The name is derived from Latin Skåneland Terra Scaniæ and 1868 by history professor Martin Weibull in his journal Samlingar till Skåne historia ( collections on the history of Skåne ) was first used. 1903-1923 then appeared the Historisk Tidskrift promote Skåneland ( Historical Journal of Skåneland ).
