Skeeter Davis ( born December 30, 1931 as Mary Frances Penick in Dry Ridge, Kentucky, USA; † 19 September 2004 in Nashville, Tennessee) was an American country and pop music singer.

Biography

Mary Frances Penick was born the eldest of seven children of the married couple William and Sarah Penick. Your nickname Skeeter ( mosquito ) she received in childhood, because she was very lively.

Early in her career she sang in a duet with her friend Betty Jack Davis, despite the band's name no relatives, as Davis Sisters. The girlfriend died in a car accident on August 2, 1953 Skeeter Davis was seriously injured. Then Skeeter Davis began a solo career; her biggest success was The End Of The World from the year 1963. She was also a popular duet singer, for example, with Bobby Bare.

Skeeter Davis died on September 19, 2004 to the consequences of getting breast cancer.
