Skiensvassdraget

Skiensvassdraget is the name of a river system in the Norwegian county of Telemark. The mouth is in the Frier Fjord in Porsgrunn. The precipitation area is 10,780 km ² and is the longest branch of the river is 252 km long.

The river system mainly consists of three main branches that accumulate in the Norsjø above Skien:

  • Vinje Tokke system, with the lakes Totak, Bandak, Kviteseidvatnet and Flåvatn. From Skien to Dalen Telemark canal runs.
  • Bø system, with the lakes and Sundsbarmvatnet Seljordsvatn.
  • Tinn - system, with the lakes Mosvatnet, Kalhovdfjorden, Tinnsjø and Heddalsvatnet.

The lower reaches of the river system, between Norsjø and Frier Fjord, is the Skienselva.

Within the Skiensvassdragets there are several hydroelectric power plants and large parts are channeled. By 2006, commercial rafting here was still operating. With the closure of Norske Skog Union rafting stopped.
