Skomielna Biała

Skomielna Biała is a village in the Polish community in the powiat Lubień Myślenicki in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.

Geography

Skomielna Biała is located on the western slopes of the Luboń Maly ( 896 m npm ) in the western part of the Middle Beskydy in the Raba River Basin. South of Skomielna Biała are the mountains Birtałowa (626 m npm ) and Zbójecka ( 643 m npm ).

History

Presumably, the area was settled in the 13th to the 5th century BC, at least bear witness to the found in Rabatal vessel shards, fire steel and a Bruchsteinhandbeil it. These findings are in the Archaeological Museum in Cracow. For unknown reasons, these areas were depopulated around the year 400 BC.

The reign of the Piast colonization was driven in the direction of the Tatra Mountains. In the 14th century, King Casimir III. a large-scale colonization of action on the Magdeburg law performed. During this time, the establishment of the villages Lubień ( 1360 ) and Rabka dated ( 1364 ). It is likely that Skomielna Biała was also founded in 1364. Maybe Skomielna Biała was initially only a hamlet, for Rabka and the actual local foundation took place in the early 16th century by the noble family from Jordan Zakliczyn, who also founded the city Jordanów instead.

The name Skomielna was first mentioned in a charter of the village Rabka that issued Nicholas, the heir of Niewiarów, for Andrew and Peter, the sons of compatriot Janusz from Olszówka, on 16 March 1446. In this document, the name of the border-river is usque ad verticem Skomylna, of the flow to the flow Glynyasty Skomylna.

In 1550 January Spytko Jordan has donated the first church and parish, 1565 Skomielna was transferred from the parish Łętownia in the parish Rabka. In 1776 the construction of the St. Sebastian's church was finished in larch wood.

Already since 1772 was Skomielna Biała in the territory of the Habsburgs ( Austria ) due to the first partition of Poland.

1885 a public school was founded here. In 1896 the parish Skomielna Biała after separation from Rabka, 1911 the volunteer fire brigade was founded.

On 3 September 1939, the Wehrmacht burned the church and part of the village in revenge for the resistance of the 10th Armoured Cavalry Brigade of Colonel Stanisław Maczek.

The electrification of the entire village took place in 1953. Due to the Polish administration reform from 1973 Skomielna Biała Voivodeship Nowy Sacz belonged to, community Lubień; Since 1999 the newly created Lesser Poland Voivodeship.

In the years 1997-2003, the school was expanded, efforts to establish a school in Skomielna Biała were successful. The gymnasium was by Henryk LASAK, a Polish cyclist, named.

Name

To name origin, there are several hypotheses, one leading back to the place name Skomeln, who was probably the founder or the first inhabitants. Another states that the name comes from a stream that marked the boundaries of the village. Until the 17th century Skomielna was without the additional name Biała ( engl.: white) written. This has likely been selected for differentiation from today as Skomielna Czarna ( black) known location.

Traffic

In the village there are two main state roads intersect: the national road 28 which Zator and Wadowice Nowy Sacz and connects with Przemysl and the 7 road (part of the E 77 ), which leads to Zakopane.

Tourism

The neo-Romanesque church is the defining landmark Skomielna Biała.

The area around Skomielna Biała is provided densely wooded and with trails that lead in the direction of the High Tatras and to the following peaks in the area: Turbacz and Stare Wierchy in Gorce, Babia Góra in the Babia mountain range. The blue trail leads from Jordanów over the Luboń Maly on the Luboń Wielki ( 1022 m npm ) in the Middle Beskids.

In the summer there is a youth hostel in the school building.
