Skyy (band)

The band Skyy was founded in Brooklyn / New York 1976. Solomon Roberts Jr. was the owner of the "Hole in the Ground Studios " ( a 4-track tape machine in the basement of his parents ). The studio was the first stop for many ambitious young funk bands and musicians in the late 1960s. Regular visitors to the studios were Randy Muller with his band Dynamic Soul (later brass construction ), the Crown Heights Affair and BT Express.

In 1976, Roberts formed his first band "Fuel ", in which he " Skyy " renamed in 1979. The band was taken from the record label Salsoul under contract and produced the self-titled debut album " Skyy ". The first single "First Time Around " (1979) was already a big hit in the R & B charts (# 20) and the successful single " Call Me" (1981 ) even got into the pop charts (# 26). The band's music was widespread in the clubs of the time and was played by DJs such as Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles.
