Sleiman Hajjar

Sleiman Hajjar BS ( born May 13, 1950 in Jezzine in Lebanon, † March 10, 2002 in Florida, United States) was the second bishop of the Melkite Greek - Catholic Church of Saint- Sauveur de Montréal in Canada.

Life

His childhood was spent Hajjar in a faithful and virtuous family. He studied at the Université Saint -Joseph in Beirut and earned a degree in business administration. He then began his studies in liturgy and theology at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik -. He spoke fluent Arabic, English and French. On August 4, 1979 he was ordained a priest of the Melkite Basilian Order of the Most Holy Redeemer. From 1979-1995 he was in several Melkite parishes, worked as a teacher and parish administrator and principal. At the same time he became involved in social and cultural projects. He found his pastoral emphasis in youth ministry. In 1995 he took over in Canada, the parish of St. Peter and Paul in Ottawa.

On July 10, 1998, by Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Saint- Sauveur de Montréal, he succeeded Michel Hakim. The ordination led the Patriarch of Antioch Archbishop Maximos V Hakim on 6 August 1998. Were co-consecrators Archbishop Michel Hakim BS and Bishop Issam Darwich BS John of Sydney. On March 10, 2002 died Bishop Hajjar on a vacation trip in Florida ( USA) of sudden cardiac death after only four years in office. Bishop Ibrahim Ibrahim Michael was appointed as his successor.
