Maximos V. Hakim

Maximos V Hakim (* as George Selim Hakim May 18, 1908 in Tanta, Egypt; † June 29, 2001 in Beirut, Lebanon) was Patriarch of Antioch of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church.

Life

Hakim came from a family of immigrants from Aleppo. He attended the Jesuit Collège de la Sainte - French Famille in Cairo and studied at the Seminary of St. Anne in Jerusalem. In the St. Anne's Basilica he received on July 20, 1930, the priesthood by the Archbishop of Tyre, Maximos IV Sayegh MSP.

In 1943 he was appointed bishop of archeparchy Akka. On 13 June 1943 he received by Patriarch Cyril IX. Moghabghab in Cairo episcopal ordination and was appointed bishop of St. John in Acre, Haifa, Nazareth and all Galilee; Co-consecrators were the suffragans Dionysios Kfoury BS and Pierre Kamel Medawar MSP. 1964 he was appointed archbishop.

On November 22, 1967, he was elected by the Holy Synod of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church in Ain Traz patriarch.

Traditionally, the Patriarch of Antioch and the Spiritual Protector of the over 900 -year-old Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, who follows the rules of the order of St. Augustine. In addition, Maximos V. Hakim was protector of the Order of Knights of the Holy Byzantine grave. He was Grand Master of the company founded by his predecessor patriarchal Order of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem.

At the age of 92 years, he quit his position at Gregory III. Laham.
