Smardzewo, West Pomeranian Voivodeship

Smardzewo ( German name Schmarsow ) is a village in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland. It belongs to the rural community Sławno ( Schlawe ) in the powiat Slawienski.

Geographical location

Smardzewo is located six kilometers south-west of Sławno at the intersection of roads Karwice ( Karwitz ) Ostrowiec ( Wusterwitz ) and Bobrowice (Alt Bewersdorf ) Żegocino ( blessing Thin). The nearest railway station until 1945 Wusterwitz ( Ostrowiec ) at the small railway Schlawe - Pollnow ( Polanów ) Sydow ( Żydowo ) the Schlawer tracks. Today there is web connection via Karwice or Sławno.

On the western edge of the village is a 21 acre lake located in the shadow of a 76 -meter-high mountain ( topographic point).

Neighboring towns of Smardzewo are: in the west Paproty ( Parpart ), in the north Karwice ( Karwitz ) Rzyszczewo ( Ristow ) and Bobrowice (Alt Bewersdorf ), to the east Kwasowo ( Quatzow ) Kosierzewo ( Kusserow ) and Ostrowiec ( Wusterwitz ), and in the south Podgórki ( German Puddiger ) and Żegocino ( blessing Thin).

History

In 1655 Schmarsow ( Low German also Schmorse ) was identified as the property of Niklas von Below widow. In 1680 the village went to Rüdiger Otto von Zitzewitz, whose son Ernst von Zitzewitz Bogislav sold it in 1731 to the Captain Ludwig Friedrich Marshal of Bieberstein. This sold it 1740 to the Prussian Minister of State Otto Christoph Graf von Podewils on Krag.

Around 1780 had Schmarsow 1 Vorwerk, 5 farmers, blacksmiths and 1 1 neuangelegtes Vorwerk. 1818 lived 120 inhabitants here. Their number increased to 1895 to 285 in 1939 and amounted to 247

Before 1945 Schmarsow belonged with Ristow ( Rzyszczewo ) and Rötzenhagen ( Boleszewo ) for District Ristow, to the registry office Ristow and District Court District Schlawe district Schlawe i Pom. in the district of the Prussian province of Pomerania Pomerania.

On March 7, 1945, Soviet troops occupied the place. By 1950, the Germans were forced to work under Russian and Polish administration on the estate. From 1947 Polish families took over the farms. The last Germans were allowed to leave the home in 1958. Schmarsow received the Polish place names Smardzewo. It is now a part of Gmina Sławno in powiat Slawienski the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Until 1998 it was part of the former province Stolp.

Church

Evangelical Church

Before 1945 the inhabitants were predominantly Protestant denomination Schmarsow. The village belonged to the parish Ristow, which formed the parish Altristow with the daughter church Rötzenhagen. It was in the church Schlawe the ecclesiastical province of the Church of the Old Prussian Pomerania Union. Last German minister was Pastor Paul Meyer.

The place now belongs to rectory in Koszalin ( Koszalin ) in the Diocese of Pomerania - Greater Poland the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland.

Roman Catholic Church

By the of 1945 were made until 1958 population exchange is the population of Smardzewo today predominantly Roman Catholic denomination. The place is part of the parish Sławno the Dean's Office in the Diocese of Koszalin - Kolobrzeg Sławno of the Catholic Church in Poland.

School

School History

In Schmarsow there was before 1945 a two-class elementary school, their old half-timbered building with teacher's residence from the 19th century - mounted with 1922 massive classroom - came from. Here, up to 100 children were taught including their out Banow. Last German headmaster was a teacher Arthur Gieseler.
