Soden Railway

The Soden Railway is a railway line in the west of Frankfurt am Main.

Route

The Sodener train runs from Frankfurt- Höchst Sulzbach to Bad Soden and is 6.6 km long. It was also called maximum Sodener web. The route carries the course book number 643 and is now run as a line 13 at RMV.

History

1845 Sodener Actien Society was founded by Bankhaus Bethmann to build a spa facility and a rail line to Soden. The line was opened on 22 May 1847, and is therefore probably the oldest branch line in Germany. In maximum, it has connection to the existing since 1839 Taunus Railway from Frankfurt to Wiesbaden, where the track conditions led to a continuous traffic towards Wiesbaden, Frankfurt a change of direction was required. The reason for the construction of the railway was to connect the emerging spa and beach resort Soden to the very young railway network. Builder and owner of the railway was the Sodener Actien Society, which had transferred the operation management from the beginning of the Taunus Railway Company.

Since 1972 there is the train station in Bad Soden a connection for Limes train from Bad Soden to Niederhöchstadt over which the city is connected to the S -Bahn network Rhein / Main.

Operation

The railway ran at first only in the summer months. 1860 put the company that operates the route still and demanded subsidies from the Nassau government, but what they refused. It was only on October 1, 1863, after the route for 100,000 guilders had been sold to the Taunus Railway Company, the operation was resumed. On January 1, 1872, the Sodener railway was sold to the Prussian State Railways and drove since even in winter.

From 1979 to 1997, the Sodener train was part of the line S3 S-Bahn Rhein- Main. For this purpose, the line was electrified. The composition of the trains was very weak, so that the S -Bahn operation was abandoned. In addition, led the target sign " Frankfurt-Höchst " despite supplementary texts and announcements repeatedly to " incorrect use " of passengers, and what was next to a huge extended travel time by the classification rule, a ride without a valid travel pass result. Since 1997, the Frankfurt- Königstein Railway guides the operation of the line ( first in 2019 ). She sits in spite of the existing overhead line, a diesel railcar of type LINT and VT 2E, which operate on the other Taunus routes. Nevertheless, there is no continuous line connections by changing the vehicles, unlike, for example on the routes Frankfurt - Königstein and Frankfurt - Brandoberndorf.

Future

The section south of the highway A 66 is provided as part of the planned regional rail " Regional tangent West" (RTW ). If the project is implemented, the construction of an additional breakpoint in the amount of the underpass of Zuckschwerdtstraße is provided ( between municipal hospital and the city park Höchst).
