Rodgau Railway

The Rodgaubahn is one of Offenbach (Main ) on Rodgau Röder by Mark Ober-Roden leading, single-track and double-track since 2003, originally railway. The name derives from the Rodgaubahn derived from the medieval name Rodgau, a part of the former Main district, from which they traversed in its whole extent.

History

Since about 1870 there have been serious efforts and advances of the local level, the Rodgau to open up by a railroad, but were initially by the state not taken up. Thus was formed after the first, unsuccessful initiative in 1877 " Eisenbahncomitée ". But this was only after four years, a response from the state capital of Darmstadt, to be able to start with the preparatory work for a railway project Offenbach- clean home, at your own expense. It took until 1888 to finally existed government approval and after further discussions about the connection of the railway in Offenbach am Main to the Prussian state railways in 1895 was granted the building permit. In Offenbach is first decided on its own train station south of the station of the Prussian state railways. It was built with the distance of the Grand Ducal Hessian State Railways. Well, it took only until September 30, 1896, when a new route from Offenbach Dieburg to clean home (now route number 3661 ) was opened with a length of 42.2 kilometers.

In the following years the Rodgaubahn received after two further railway lines:

  • December 1, 1898, opened as Streckenast of Offenbach- Bieber the route Offenbach- Bieber - Dietz Bach.
  • Took place on April 1, 1905 in Ober-Roden, the connection of newly opened Dreieich track of Buchschlag to the so-called starting around this time Rodgaubahn.

1923, the railways were later placed in an embankment to reach freedom intersection with the road in Offenbach city. Therefore a new main station was built in Offenbach, einmündete in the now and the Rodgaubahn whose own station was abandoned.

Operation

First four pairs of trains daily wrong. After connecting the Dreieich train there were only two through pairs of trains between Offenbach and Dieburg. The trains were initially in the steam operation, after the Second World War increasingly with diesel locomotives. The meaning of the compound was in the growing commuter traffic from the northern Odenwald and the eastern district of Offenbach to working in the leather goods industry in the city of Offenbach.

On 28 May 1965, the passenger traffic between Dieburg and clean home has been discontinued, partly because of the parallel -run bus route. In 1967, this route - initially only Dieburg and large rooms - mined. Still drove freight trains to and from Odenwaldbahn on the route to Darmstadt east, until this was decommissioned in 1970. 1989 saw also the degradation of the remaining portion of the track to clean home.

S -Bahn

In the late 50s of the 20th century a reconstruction of the route to S -Bahn operation was brought into the conversation. However, it should still last until 23 March 2001 to the conversion of the Rodgaubahn began a two-track, electrified line within the Frankfurt S- Bahn network. In the course of finishing works 13 stops and stations were modernized and 2 re-created. 15 bridge structures emerged and 18 level crossings were secured with new barrier systems.

The timetable change 2003/2004 on 14 December 2003, the S-Bahn operations began and the Rodgaubahn integrated into the network operated by DB Regio AG network of S- Bahn Rhein -Main. Driving it is from the line S1 ( Wiesbaden- Ober-Roden ) - and in its northern section by the S2 (low Hausen- Dietz Bach). Initially it was thought of an extension of S1 to Dieburg and an extension of the S2 to Ober-Roden, but this failed due to lack of economic viability. Therefore, the portion of Ober-Roden to Dieburg was not electrified. This section is running on the coming of Buchschlag Dreieich web today.
