Sofades (Greek Σοφάδες ( m. pl. ) ) Is a Greek small town and municipality ( Dimos Sofadon Δήμος Σοφάδων ) southwest of the Administrative Region of Thessaly. The municipality was created in 1997 and 2010 increased significantly by incorporations and divided today into five municipal districts and 31 villages, 14 of which make up the municipality of Sofades corresponding to the municipality from 1997 to 2010.

6,416 of the total of 21 759 residents of the community live in the small town Sofades itself; the remaining population of the municipality is divided among the remaining 30 villages. The municipality is located in the southwestern part of the Thessalian Plain, south of Karditsa and Trikala and south-west of Larisa, northwest of Lamia and west of Volos. My area is mainly agricultural.

Near the modern city Sofades the ancient settlement should Kierion ( Κιέριον ) have found. The name of the municipality Sofades was first described as Sofou ( Σοφού ) around the year 1454. On April 30, 1954 local time in Sofades a major earthquake occurred 13:02 clock in the immediate area with a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale.

The Greek inhabitants of the region around Sofades be described as so-called Karagounides ( Καραγκούνηδες ).

Sofades is connected by the National Road 30 through Domokos to Volos. Furthermore Sofades has a connection to the Greek railway network.
